    So about 50 years ago when student loans first became a thing the government was stupid enough to send the checks directly to the students rather than the financial aid offices at the Universities. There were many students who simply used the money for something else. We used to call them guaranteed student Harley Davidsons. It took nearly a decade for the government to catch on and send the money to the schools so they got paid first and gave the balance to the students.

    • @angelaserviss2262
      @angelaserviss2262 День назад

      Navient is now considered a private lender and no longer a federal lender. In order to have your loans considered for the one time adjustment, you will need to consolidate them by June 30th which make all of your loans federal and this eligible for the adjustment. To confirm, I would contact student aid.gov in their chat section.

      SAVE is likely best for you because you don’t make six figures. It may not be the best option if you don’t have a high loan balance and you could pay it off on the shorter standard plan.

    I started college in 2003-2004 with all the ads after the 911 bill. I had 80k equity in my home and wanted to trade that for a 4 year degree. In 2008, my finances got very bad as every year in school my interest rates increased. My banker told me to just get student loans as there was no interest while in school. Anyway, my parents could not help me at all and I lost my home as I couldn't sell it with the housing crash. I lost all my equity and as a single father with an 8 year old I needed to drop out and get a job to pay for food. I lost everything while the bankers got bailed out. Then for 3 years to stop the debt collections they added on thousands of dollars in capitalization of interest to get my loans current. I was living in total poverty just making enough for to rent a 1 bedroom dump and my father helped me get groceries so my daughter had food to eat. My loans got refinanced or consolidated so it looks like I've only had them since 2011... Do I have to wait until 2031 to get forgiveness? I only got a associate degree (straight A student) and never got the bachelors. This debt has ruined my life and never would have happened had the housing crash not happened. I am depressed and suicidal. I just found out a friend I went to school with got all his loans forgiven but I went from a community college to a 4 year school and he went from community college to an art institute.

    I personally do NOT believe that there should be ANY student loan forgiveness. People took out those loans, acting as adults then they need to own that responsibility. The law should be changed to allow bankruptacy, as then there would be SOME accountability to the poor decisions people made. And yes, they made poor decisions. No plan, no research on their prospects, doing whatever FELT right or good....rather than an actual need. I understand that people might have a hard time, but they still dont get a pass from the responsibilities they incur by their choices. And I dont think it either fair Or right for those of use who DID pay back out loans to have to help pay back everyone elses.
